Tungsten carbide has advantages such as high melting point, high hardness, poor electrical and thermal conductivity, and stable chemical properties, making it an ideal material for producing wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coatings. However, due to its high melting point and high hardness, sprayed tungsten carbide particles have poor adhesion to the substrate and are prone to oxidation when exposed to elevated temperatures in air. Therefore, pure tungsten carbide powder is rarely used alone as a thermal spray powder material. It is typically added with metals or alloys such as Co, Ni, or Ni-Cr as a binder phase to create sintered or coated powders for thermal spraying. Tungsten carbide, cobalt and tungsten carbide series thermal spray powders have been widely used. Because the coatings prepared by them have extremely high hardness, excellent wear and corrosion resistance and good toughness, they are widely used in aerospace, automobile, metallurgy, electric power, papermaking and other fields to improve the wear resistance of component surfaces and repair worn areas.
